VAZ 2110 , popularly “ ten ”, has a manual gearbox (gearbox). And for its normal functioning, it is necessary to change from time to time .

Getting ready for replacement

The need to regularly replace the oil is caused by the fact that during vehicle operation, engine oil operates under conditions of high temperature and heavy mechanical loads. As a result, the additives included in its composition burn out. At the same time, the lubrication characteristics also deteriorate (decrease in viscosity, etc.), which causes increased wear of parts in the friction units of the power unit.

In addition, the chemical composition is supplemented by wear products, which, together with insoluble particles formed during the burnout process (carbon deposits), leads to failure of the oil filter.

The level of “working off” in the car crankcase must be regularly monitored. To do this you need:

  • place the car on a horizontal platform;
  • wait about 10 minutes so that all the oily solution is in the engine crankcase;
  • Use a dipstick to check the mixture level in the engine crankcase. If the oil mark is located between the MIN and MAX marks, the quantity corresponds to the norm. If the MIN risks are lower, the level is insufficient, which may indicate increased oil consumption. It must be topped up to the normal level. Higher risks are MAX – the level is excessive. The excess needs to be drained. In this case, it is recommended to visually check whether fuel is getting into the crankcase and, if necessary, eliminate this serious malfunction.

What kind of oil to pour

When replacing, experts recommend using engine oil of the same brand that was in the power unit before. If you want to replace it with another one, you must follow the recommendations of the car manufacturer. In this case, it is necessary to flush the lubrication system of the power unit with a special flushing composition.

In accordance with the section “Fuels, lubricants and operating fluids” given in the maintenance and operating instructions for the VAZ 2110 vehicle, the following types of oils are allowed to be used (SAE classification):

  • "REXOL UNIVERSAL" (10W–30, 10W–40, 15W–40, 20W–30,20W–40, 30);

All engines that power the VAZ 2110 car are developed on the basis of the well-known VAZ 2108 power unit with a cylinder displacement of 1.5 liters and a combined lubrication system (spray under pressure).

Nothing has changed fundamentally in its design, so the amount of engine oil poured inside the engine has not changed and is approximately 3.5 liters. This also applies to 16-valve engine modifications, which use the same cylinder block as in 8-valve power units.

When installing a new oil filter, about 300 ml of auto lubricant is poured into it, so approximately 3.2 liters are poured into the engine. Where to pour oil

The engine oil in the VAZ 2110 is located in the crankcase of the power unit. For filling, a special neck is provided in the upper part of the cylinder head, closed with a lid, which prevents it from splashing during engine operation.

Summer oils

Summer transmission fluids are used in the warm season (which follows quite logically from the name). This type is great for use in areas that have noticeable temperature differences between seasons.

Summer lubricants have the following markings:

  • 90W
  • 140W
  • 250W

API parameters

The mixtures differ not only in composition and viscosity , but also in the level of performance properties ( API ). According to this parameter, there are 7 groups of oils . But only two are the most popular:

  • GL-4
  • GL-5

Transmission fluids for gearboxes belonging to the GL-4 are used in those vehicles that have a normal level of load. Mixtures of the GL-5 are used in those vehicles that are operated in special and unfavorable conditions.

Comparison of specific oils for the VAZ 2110 gearbox

Lukoil-Super is a “mineral water” that has the parameters SAE 15W40 API SD/SF . The price is low. It has a good effect on the operation of synchronizers, so some owners of “ten” choose it.

TAD-17I - according to the SAE TAD oil is compatible with GL-5 80w90. It is characterized by a wide range of operating temperatures - from -25°C + 140°C. the price is low, but it’s still better not to use this composition.

TNK TM-4-12 this composition is recommended by the automaker.

Castrol EP-80 - mineral oil from Germany, parameters SAE 80, API GL-4 . It has a relatively low price and is perfect for the car.

Castrol EP-90 is also a German mineral water for gearboxes, with parameters SAE 90, API GL-4.

Changing the oil in a VAZ 2110 automatic machine

Replacing the lubricant in an automatic transmission slightly different from replacing it in a manual transmission. Level control and required volume

While operating the vehicle, it is necessary to regularly check the oil level in the gearbox. According to the factory instructions, control is carried out once every 15 thousand kilometers, but in practice it is advisable to carry out this operation 2-3 times more often.

To check the level, you need to remove the dipstick located on the top of the box housing next to the thermostat housing. There are two notches on the probe rod indicating the lower and upper limit levels. In a working box, the oil level should be slightly below the maximum level. If the level is insufficient, the oil must be added. To do this, fill in liquid from the same manufacturer and with the same parameters as before. If this information is unknown, then the oil must be changed.

When changing the lubricant, you need to know how much oil is in the VAZ 2110 box. According to factory standards, there are 3.5 liters of oil in the box. The oil volume does not depend on the number of valves on the engine, since the crankcase is the same. Therefore, to replace it, you need to buy a container with the same amount of new oil.

Sometimes, when filling, a little more than 3.5 liters enters the crankcase, but the level does not exceed the maximum permissible value. There is no need to pour more than 3.6 liters of oil into the box, as this causes increased resistance to gear rotation and increases fuel consumption. The second side effect of oil overflow can be squeezing out the wheel drive seals. It is better to pump out excess oil through the dipstick hole using a large-volume medical syringe equipped with a long tube.

Transmission seals

VAZ 2110 gearbox seals are replaceable parts. During checkpoint maintenance the following types of repairs may be carried out:

Algorithm of actions

The procedure for changing the oil is as follows:

  1. Place the car on a horizontal pit or overpass.
  2. Remove the dipstick from the gearbox housing.
  3. If the engine and gearbox protection is installed below, it must be removed.
  4. Wipe the lower part of the crankcase with a rag and use a 17 mm wrench to unscrew the drain plug.
  5. Place the container and drain the oil. Complete draining of the oil takes at least 15 minutes.
  6. Wipe the plug and threads with a clean rag.
  7. Screw the plug in by hand and tighten it with a wrench.
  8. Install a hose with a funnel into the dipstick hole and fill in approximately 3.3 liters of fresh oil.
  9. Wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the crankcase and check the level.
  10. If necessary, add oil or pump out excess.
  11. After 200-300 km, re-check the level and make sure there are no oil leaks through the drain plug or box seals.

Self-replacement

So, replacing the fluid yourself is not that difficult if you follow the guide . This will take about 40-60 minutes and the following tools:

  • Container for draining waste liquid (its volume is 5 liters);
  • Key to 17;
  • Funnel;
  • A special syringe that is used to fill transmission fluid;
  • A clean rag (you can use newspaper);
  • Rubber gloves (it is quite difficult to wash your hands of oil);
  • New transmission fluid.

When to replace?

According to the attached documentation, the oil in the VAZ 2110 gearbox should be changed every 30-35 thousand kilometers. This is due to the deterioration of its quality during operation, which entails the appearance of noise and unpleasant sounds in the gearbox.

Required tools for replacing waste fluid in the box

  • The final stage is to fill in the same amount of transmission oil as was drained. The entire volume of new lubricant must be poured in as carefully and accurately as possible. After the oil is poured, check its level, which should be halfway between the maximum and minimum marks. If you have filled in enough lubricant, you should take a short trip, and then check the fluid level again and top up if necessary. It is important to remember that when carrying out these manipulations, the car must be in an exclusively horizontal position.
