“Luxury” version of the Lada X Ray Cross can be recognized by the leather trim on the gear shift lever and on the steering wheel, climate control, light/rain sensors, heated steering wheel and windshield, as well as the presence of heated rear seats. Under the hood of the cross-country hatchback is a 1.8-liter engine with an output of 122 hp, coupled with a robotic or manual transmission.

If we compare the model with the Sandero Stepway, equipped with the weakest 82-horsepower engine, then the cost of the Lada XRAY Cross will be almost 30 thousand rubles more, while for the Stepway with a 113-horsepower engine they ask from 730 thousand rubles. Speaking of the X-Line Kia Rio, the version equipped with a 123 hp engine. offered from 850 thousand rubles.

The Lada Xray Cross was presented as a concept back in 2016, but the production model was shown only in August 2021. The crossover version is distinguished by a new front bumper, increased ground clearance, larger wheel diameters, a body kit using unpainted plastic and a number of other nuances.

X Ray Cross sizes:

• height 1645 mm (+75 mm compared to regular Xray),
• width 1810 mm (+46 mm),
• length – 4171 mm (+6 mm).

Compared to the regular X-ray hatchback, the all-terrain version has become 6 mm longer, 46 mm wider and 75 mm taller. It was possible to achieve an increase in height by using luggage rails, as well as a high ground clearance. The track has also become wider: on the rear axles it is 1546 mm (an increase of 42 mm), on the front axle it is 1503 mm (plus 19 mm).

The Lada brand launched its “raised” high hatchback Xray Cross on the market in November 2021. In the summer of 2021, production of versions equipped with a Jatco CVT began. Now the Russian brand has announced the appearance of a new top-end configuration of the model – Instinct. Its release has already begun.

The new top version of the Xray Cross can be distinguished by its black roof, side mirrors of the same color and the same diamond-cut wheels. There are several changes in the interior, including: different seat upholstery, glossy black door handles, and a logo with the name of the performance. In addition, this version has a new multimedia system with Yandex.Auto services and a larger touch screen (8 inches instead of 7).

The new configuration is based on the current richest version – Luxe Prestige. Its equipment includes climate control, heated windshield, side mirrors, steering wheel, as well as heated all seats (for the front it is three-level), rear parking sensors, rear view camera, rain and light sensors, cruise control, speed limiter and etc.

It is expected that the Lada Xray Cross in the new configuration will be offered with two petrol engines available for this model - a VAZ 122-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, which is paired with a five-speed manual transmission, as well as a 113-horsepower 1.6-liter engine. liter developed by Nissan, which is combined with a continuously variable automatic transmission.

AVTOVAZ has not yet announced the prices of the new version; they will probably be announced closer to the start of sales. Let us note that the Xray Cross in the Luxe Prestige configuration can now be purchased for a minimum of 929,900 rubles - this is the price of the manual version, and for a “raised” hatchback with a CVT (in the same version) you will have to pay 979,900 rubles.

By the way, XRay's new top version appeared against the backdrop of a collapse in sales. Let us remind you that in January the model fell off the list of the best-selling cars in the country, although before that it had remained in the TOP 25 for almost four years. The hatchback figure decreased over the past year: in total, dealers sold 28,967 cars, which is 16.8% less than in 2018. It should be noted that the drivers of brand growth at the end of 2019 were Lada Granta and Vesta, while Largus and 4×4 also had a “minus”.

In the meantime, they will soon start selling another SUV with the Lada nameplate, although it cannot be called new: this is the long-familiar Chevrolet Niva model. The fact is that at the end of last year AVTOVAZ bought out its share of shares in the joint venture from the General Motors concern. For now, cars are sold with the old bow tie emblems, but in the future they will be replaced by the rook.

More about the car

Lada Xray Cross is an all-terrain modification of the hatchback of the same name, built on the B0 platform. It differs from its brother in off-road body kits and increased ground clearance, but the new crossover does not receive 4x4 all-wheel drive. Official photos of the Lada X Ray Cross (albeit a concept at that time) were declassified in August 2016 at the Moscow Motor Show.

In the spring of 2021, information appeared that the new president of AvtoVAZ, Nicolas More, had frozen the project to develop the X-ray Cross until further notice. Later it became known that the start of sales of the Lada Xray Cross is planned for the second half of 2018 , after the presentation of the production version at the Moscow Motor Show in August.

In 2021, rumors also appeared that the new modification would be called XRAY X - this name was patented by AvtoVAZ in the spring of 2021. The X symbol, as conceived by marketers, should symbolize the off-road component of the car and, of course, all-wheel drive. To be fair, it should be noted that the registration application was submitted back in 2014 under former President Bo Andersson, and as is known, after him all the company’s production plans were partially revised for the sake of savings. However, after the release of the Lada Vesta SW Cross station wagon, it became clear that the crossover would also receive the same prefix. In addition, they refused to install all-wheel drive.

Car cost

The exact cost of various versions of the new Lada Xray Cross SUV is still unknown; it will be announced closer to the start of sales of the car. The estimated price will vary from 600 to 900 thousand rubles, depending on the configuration and technical characteristics of the car. According to marketers, expectations among Russian car enthusiasts vary around the crossover price of 800 thousand rubles.

According to the latest auto show in Moscow, the X-Ray Cross is unlikely to cost less than 900 thousand rubles; the exact price will be known on the eve of the actual start of sales.

Specifications

Initially, there were two fundamentally different approaches to developing a new car:

1. In terms of characteristics, the X-ray Cross will be a copy of its brother, the regular Xray; the so-called off-road version will be equipped with plastic body kits, roof rails and other decorative elements, which will give it an off-road look. Ground clearance will also be increased. The rest, including only front-wheel drive, will be like a hatchback.
2. The second option is more expensive for AvtoVAZ, but the car would have turned out different. With this approach, the 2021 Lada X Ray Cross will be built on the Renault Duster platform; accordingly, it will also have an all-wheel drive version, and this is a good application for off-road capability. Consequently, in terms of technical characteristics, the X Ray Cross 4x4 will be seriously different from its younger hatchback brother.

Unfortunately, it was decided to abandon the latter option: the new car will not receive all-wheel drive, but will only be a modification of the civilian Xraу, and accordingly, their technical characteristics are similar.

Bottom line

The start of sales of the new Russian crossover Lada X-Ray Cross has once again been postponed and is scheduled for the end of 2021, but, alas, you should not expect all-wheel drive just yet.

The new Russian crossover will be sold at, in principle, a not very affordable price and it is unlikely that almost every car enthusiast will be able to purchase it.

Rumors that the X Ray Cross will only have front-wheel drive, and the 4x4 version will go on sale only in 2022, may be true - so far there is no such modification, which cannot but be frustrating. All-wheel drive was expected in the same way as a full-fledged crossover at an affordable price.

Competitors

By and large, the X Ray Cross does not have many competitors; the obvious one is, of course, the Renault Sandero Stepway.

The Sandero Stepway hatchback began to be offered on the domestic market in 2014, and is equipped with three modifications of the 1.6-liter engine, and differs from the regular Sandero version by the presence of roof rails, a plastic body kit around the perimeter of the body, and also increased ground clearance to 195 mm. In many ways, the X Ray Cross and Sandero Stepway are similar: the manufacturer added plastic trim to the hatchback, increased the ground clearance, and the result was a new modification. It is noteworthy that the French went further and called Stepway a crossover, although, of course, it does not have all-wheel drive.

• Modification 82 hp The Sandero Stepway, equipped with an 82-horsepower engine (8 valves) in the “base” is equipped with a pair of airbags, cruise, foglights, heated front seats, electric mirrors and front windows, as well as an ABS system (from 690 thousand rubles). By paying extra, you can get a heated windshield, air conditioning and an audio system. The “Privilege” package (from 772 thousand rubles) adds electric windows for the rear windows, an audio system, climate control and side airbags.
• Modification 102 hp Sandero Stepway versions with a 102-horsepower power unit are equipped exclusively with an automatic 4-speed transmission. This version is available to the consumer in the “Privilege” (from 842 thousand rubles) and “Comfort” (from 760 thousand rubles) versions.
• Modification 113 hp With the most powerful engine offered for the model, the car is offered in a pair of similar trim levels. The cost of the first, “basic” one, starts from 730 thousand rubles, and the second, which has more advanced equipment, starts from 812 thousand rubles.

The Cross version will just rise to its level . As expected, the prices for the X Ray Cross will be similar, with the exception that the Lada will not have basic cheap versions, but only the Luxe package with option packages. That is, for a 1.6-liter Xray Cross with a manual transmission you will need to pay about 780 thousand, which is even cheaper than the Stepway (with comparable equipment).
