It is expected that in 2021 the first advanced installations will appear, which will be able to drive a car most of the time without human assistance. But if you can turn away from the road and do other things, won't the usual layout of passenger cars become too cramped and uncomfortable? Ford Motor Company specialists are already looking for an answer to this question and are even developing unique seats with variable configurations.
In fact, Ford engineers are not unique in their quest to make autonomous cars more convenient. For several years now, concepts have been appearing in which the seats could rotate or move around the cabin. But in reality, many factors prevent this. One of them is safety: how to implement complex hinges, but at the same time ensure that the seats do not move during a crash? While the Americans have not yet given an exact answer to this question, they have already patented several interesting concepts.
It will be possible to change the interior configuration even while on the move. To achieve this, many elements of the advanced interior will be equipped with electric drives. The steering wheel will be completely hidden in the depths of the front panel, so as not to take up useful space. The front seats of autonomous Fords will be able to rotate 180 degrees so that passengers in the smart car can sit face to face while driving. It is expected that the front seats of future robot cars will not only be able to rotate around their axis, but also almost completely hide under the front panel. While Ford is coming up with innovative seats for smart cars, Tesla Motors is toying with the idea of creating a Tesla Mobility division that will develop autonomous technologies. The Detroit Free Press reported this last week.
In general, the news about Tesla Motors' work on autopilot systems is not sensational. The most modern versions of the software for Tesla Model S sedans, which are currently only available to beta testers of sorts, allow the car to drive on the autobahn with minimal human intervention. Such electric cars are able to automatically maintain a distance from the car in front, follow the markings, and even change lanes just by turning on the turn signal. Now, autonomous driving technologies will be handled by the Tesla Mobility division.
Experts expect that the next big step towards autonomous cars will be made within 12-18 months. The commercial release of the new technology may take place in 2021. However, it is not yet clear what the new version of the advanced software will be capable of. Last September, Elon Musk said that self-driving cars should appear within the next five years. It is possible that this will happen even a little earlier.
In the future, autopilot systems will not only become a new attractive option on Tesla Motors cars, but also completely revolutionize the manufacturer’s entire business. Recently, the head of Uber, which created the sensational taxi application, Travis Kalanick admitted that he would buy 500,000 autonomous Tesla cars over five years to use them as smart taxis. Not a bad idea, right? In a recent interview, Elon Musk was asked whether this offer is profitable, or whether in the future Tesla Motors will be able to rent autonomous cars on its own, without the help of intermediaries. The famous businessman chose not to answer this question. He probably thought about this idea himself.

The car began to be produced back in 2006, that is, very soon it will celebrate its first serious anniversary. At first glance, this is a little illogical, but the Japanese decided to first develop a new generation of Mazda CX-9, and the more mass-produced Mazda CX-7 will remain on the pages of history for now. But you can already take a look at the “nine”: a pre-production prototype was spotted in the USA.
At the moment, this video gives the most complete picture of the new generation Mazda CX-9. A few weeks ago, pictures of another specimen also appeared, but it was completely hidden by camouflage. There is enough camouflage on this car, but some features can already be seen. In particular, it becomes clear that certain elements of the new crossover are very much reminiscent of the Mazda CX-5. The body lines are also similar, although the Mazda CX-9 clearly differs in completely different proportions and significantly increased dimensions.
There is a possibility that the appearance of this example is a sham: the headlights of the crossover captured in the video and the Mazda CX-5 are too similar. Engineers might have attached them temporarily to allow the prototype to be driven onto public roads and also to confuse others. There is no certainty in terms of technical content. It is expected that the Mazda CX-9 will receive a turbocharged version of the 2.5-liter SkyActiv petrol engine. One can only guess about the estimated power. We are probably talking about at least 250 horsepower.

The second spy news of last week is no less intriguing than the first. And if the Mazda CX-9 crossover is a fairly well-known model, then few people remember the Volvo S90 Today, the well-known flagship of the Swedish company is the Volvo S80. The life of the S90 turned out to be very short: the car appeared in 1997 and was essentially a restyled version of the Volvo 960. The manufacturer had to introduce a third shift at the Torslanda plant to meet growing demand. Plus, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service Alain Visser noted that 76 percent of cars are sold in the top Inscription version, which also confirms the success of the new product. Another important new product should appear in the near future - the flagship Volvo S90 sedan.
The test copy of the new product is camouflaged so well that it is simply impossible to discern any details. But now it is much more important for us that the Swedes are still developing a new flagship, and it is already entering the final stage. But the Volvo S90 still cannot be called an executive sedan - it will replace the Volvo S80 and will compete in the traditional business segment, where the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Jaguar XF reign in Europe. To compete with these models, the Swedish four-door needs to jump above its head. But the Volvo XC90 could!
The Volvo S90 will be built on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) as the new Volvo XC90. At the same time, the sedan will receive the same power units - this means that we will not see engines with a volume of more than two liters on the car. However, it will not suffer from a lack of power: the engines of the new Drive-E family develop up to 320 horsepower. Volvo representatives have already stated that the Volvo S90 will give the impression of a more expensive car than the Volvo S80 that is inferior to it. This should be reflected in the technical equipment and finishing materials used. The flagship sedan will likely be designed in the style of the Volvo Concept Estate. It is unlikely that the new product will be presented this year, but the first official teasers may appear in the near future.
We have another European model coming up: the Renault Megane . The front optics will be reminiscent of the recently introduced Renault Talisman sedan, but the rear lights still evoke comparisons with the Audi A3. The new Renault Megane will be built on the new Common Module Family platform - this promising development of the Renault-Nissan alliance promises to become very popular in the near future. As expected, the lion’s share of the so-called “flowing lines” has disappeared from the body of the Hyundai Elantra, and the appearance of the sedan has become less aggressive. But some family features were still retained - first of all, the large hexagonal front grille. The “regular” Vesta has been available to domestic consumers since 2021, but fans of the brand are still waiting for the serial sports modification - such a model has not yet been officially presented by AvtoVAZ (although there are already many photos of the Lada Vesta Sport).
The Lada Vesta Sport was first shown as a concept at the 2016 Moscow Motor Show, but the manufacturer did not give an exact time frame for when the new product could go into mass production. According to some reports, in April 2021 the car will be at the disposal of the Lada Sport division and will roll off its assembly line in small batches, and there will be two versions for sale: Vesta S-line and Vesta R. The vehicle's ground clearance allows it to overcome obstacles such as tram tracks and speed bumps without any problems. Of course, the Lada Vesta Sport is quite capable of driving on not too steep off-road conditions, but you can’t count on anything more with the declared ground clearance and the uncontested front-wheel drive system.

The profile of the new body seems a little larger due to decorative inserts at the bottom and 17-inch aluminum wheels with a bright pattern. Otherwise, it’s the same X-shaped design, thin, rounded windows separated by wide black pillars, as well as circular, slightly protruding wheel arches and a stylish skirt. The look is complemented by large round heated mirrors and turn signal repeaters.
The rear of the Lada Vesta Sport 2021 looks more sporty, but there is a feeling of some overload with elements. This part begins with a “fin”-spoiler, which turns into a strongly inclined glass. Immediately behind it is a high-set short trunk lid, on the rear edge of which there is a small spoiler with a brake light repeater in the middle. Below are the familiar polygonal side lights, a pair of chrome plated nameplates, as well as a relief that includes stamping for the license plate.
As for the body kit, it began to look more menacing, having received two air intake slits at the edges, additional relief, and a large trapezoidal insert at the very bottom. It consists of two parts: at the top there is a medium-sized black plastic mesh, and below there is a shaped diffuser with two large exhaust system pipes separated at the edges, as well as another “stop” backup.

Lada Vesta belongs to the B-class and is the long-awaited product of the Volga Automobile Plant, which, according to the original plans, meets all the requirements for a modern car. The body of the Lada Vesta received a recognizable silhouette due to the dark radiator grille, characteristic side triangular stampings on the body and high-cut side windows.
