Making such a device from a starter with your own hands is not that difficult. As mentioned earlier, the most common winches are the electric type. Below you will learn how to make it yourself from simple materials. This design is based on a car starter, preferably with a planetary gearbox.

In the attached video you can see how you can make a homemade electric winch from a starter.

Before work, you need to prepare in advance the following tools and materials:

• starter;
• welding machine;
• grinder;
• cable;
• steel sheet;
• electrical wiring;
• gearbox

The algorithm of actions looks like this:

• First you need to make a drum from pipes. They will need to have cheeks reinforced with a thickness of about 5 mm, but no more;
• make a platform from steel sheets on which all parts of the structure will be installed;
• secure the nuts, bolts, washers and drum seats on the site using a welding machine;
• We interface the gearbox with the drum, and the primary shaft of the gearbox must be directed upward. Can be used for winch plow operation;
• The starter must be interfaced with the gearbox according to special drawings and technologies. First, we install the adapter that will be needed to mount the starter at the top of the gearbox. Then the input shaft will need to be equipped with a gear that has a tooth of the required size. If all of the above steps were performed correctly, then when the starter is turned on, the gear and shaft will connect to the gearbox;
• at the end we put on a gear, which can be made from the flywheel crown. It is put on the input shaft of the gearbox.

Now you can move on to the final stage of work. At the end, you will need to fix all the nodes of our design. So, connect the electrical wiring to the starter and fix the control panel.

Do not forget to clean the mechanism from the following:

• mud;
• dust;
• oil stains;
• substances and objects that could interfere with the correct operation of the winch.

Finally, the device can be primed and then painted in one layer of paint. All this remains at your discretion. You can do without painting.
