Repair of brake cylinders on VAZ 2112, 2111, 2110
In this article, you need to determine the cause of the brake cylinder failure on the VAZ 2110 car, and it will also be replaced.
A good cylinder will last a long time, but you need to find one first. There are a large number of defective parts on the market that often break. To find out what condition the brake cylinders are in, you first need to remove the brake drum. If there are small leaks on the cylinder, then in any case it needs to be replaced and further operation is prohibited. It is best to change both cylinders at once, because if one of them is worn out, the second one will soon fail in any case. You should never drive with faulty brakes and should always keep them in working order.
Checking the brake cylinder on VAZ 2112, 2111, 2110 is carried out only when the drum is removed. An assistant sits in the cabin and presses the brake pedal, the second one carefully holds the pads and watches how the pistons move apart. After such interventions in the system, in any case, it will be necessary to bleed the brakes so that all the air leaves the system and the rear brake pressure regulator drive must be re-adjusted.
The quality of the brake fluid plays a huge role in operation, but brake fluid will also play an equally important role.
Now you directly need to move on to replacing the elements themselves, you need to start with the front brake cylinder. The car is placed on a viewing hole or a lift, and the rear wheels are fixed. We remove the front wheels, unscrew the fastenings of the brake caliper connections. We squeeze the caliper in a vice, unscrew the fastenings of the connecting tube, and disconnect it. Use a screwdriver to press on the latch, which fits into the side groove of the caliper. We carefully slide the cylinder along the guide grooves, and in this case the latch should always be in the pressed position. We remove the standard brake cylinder and install a new one, and assembly proceeds in the reverse order. Now you need to fix the front wheels and remove the rear ones. Using a rubber hammer, you need to pull out the brake drum of the VAZ 2112, 2111, 2110 from its place. The end of the upper spring tie must be carefully pulled out, which until this time was connected by the brake shoe. The parking brake handle must be lifted all the way, then the brake pads will move apart and are much easier to remove. You also need to unscrew the brake pipe from the cylinder. The rear brake cylinder was removed; if necessary, it can be replaced with a new one, and the assembly procedure is reversed. Don't forget to bleed the brakes again.
If we talk about the master cylinder, then first you need to pump out the brake fluid and this can be done using a regular brake bulb. After this, we disconnect all the brake pipes and hoses. Unscrew the two nuts securing the GTZ. We remove the cylinder, install a new one or repair the old one, assembly must be carried out in the reverse order of removal.
At the end, pumping is done again, and in addition to this, the brake fluid needs to be filled to the level. When replacing cylinders, you need to inspect the condition of the pads and replace them if necessary. A quick and timely response to any breakdown makes it possible to further protect yourself from expensive repairs, which can sometimes cost several thousand rubles.
Procedure for replacing the front brake cylinder on a VAZ 2110-2112
Video instruction
The video was made using the example of a VAZ 2110 car and is equally suitable for both 2111 and 2112. The only way the car parts may differ externally is the brake discs: ventilated or not, as well as their sizes.
Photo report
First of all, we will need to remove the front wheel of the car, after first lifting the car with a jack. After this, using a hexagon, you need to unscrew the two bolts securing the caliper bracket.
Now you can remove the bracket and remove the pads:
Then you can rip off the brake hose with a wrench, but you don’t have to unscrew it completely.
Next, we unscrew two more bolts securing the cylinder to the caliper, having previously bent the two locking plates under them using a screwdriver.
And we move the cylinder to the side, since nothing else holds it.
The hose can now be unscrewed completely by turning the brake cylinder itself several times counterclockwise.
To avoid excessive losses of brake fluid, it is advisable to fix the hose as high as possible, and always with the fitting facing up. You can also substitute a container if liquid suddenly leaks out.
A new front one costs about 500 rubles, so this price is quite acceptable. But the assembled caliper already costs about 2,000 rubles, which is already significant if you suddenly have to change the entire assembly. Installation of this part occurs in the reverse order.
GTZ VAZ 2110 signs of malfunction, purpose of the device, performance check replacement
Despite the fact that these two units are inextricably linked with each other, in our material we will consider them separately. This will allow you to understand in detail all the nuances and features of the operation and repair of the two devices.
I — main cylinder body; 2 - low pressure sealing ring; 3 — drive piston of the “left front-right rear brake” circuit; 4 - spacer ring; 5 - high pressure sealing ring; 6 — pressure spring of the sealing ring;
7 — spring plate; 8 — piston return spring; 9 — washer; 10 - locking screw;
II — drive piston of the “right front-left rear brake” circuit; 12 — connecting sleeve; 13 - tank; 14 — emergency brake fluid level sensor; A - gap
Vacuum booster
The braking system of a car certainly cannot be called perfect, so it has to be supplemented with devices that help improve efficiency. One of them is a vacuum booster.
Application and purpose
Today, a vacuum amplifier is in great demand because it is highly efficient.
Its tasks are extensive, but the amplifier copes with them all perfectly:
- The degree of resistance of the brake pedal increases;
- Reduces the load on the brake system;
- Acts as a highly efficient auxiliary unit;
- Has a positive effect on the service life of the brake system, etc.
This element has the following components:
- Dense body, for the manufacture of which a high-strength polymer is used;
- The diaphragm, which is also called the collecting node;
- Monitoring or control specialized valve;
- Pusher. It allows you to return the engine elements to their original position when there is no power;
- Main piston rod of the brake system cylinder (main);
- Switch return spring.
The body of this spring has two cellular divisions, which are divided into vacuum and atmospheric. Cells are often called chambers.
- The vacuum chamber is a cell directly connected to the brake master cylinder.
- The atmospheric chamber is a cell located opposite the brake pedal. Its open part of the body rests on the brake pedal.
It is also worth noting the diaphragm, which performs two very important tasks:
- Corrects the position of the piston in space;
- Pumps brake fluid to the main brake cylinders.
Installing a vacuum booster involves a serious change in the sensitivity of the pedal, so it is strongly recommended not to apply a large and sudden force to it in the “first couple”. Pressing should be done carefully and smoothly.
Malfunctions and ways to check them
It is possible that you may need to replace the vacuum booster on your VAZ 2110. The cause may be various malfunctions, the characteristic symptoms of which are as follows:
- When you press the brake pedal, a hissing noise occurs, and at the same time, the engine speed often increases;
- The car starts to shake;
- Spark plugs stop working efficiently;
- Fuel consumption increases noticeably.
Before replacing the vacuum booster on a VAZ 2110, it should be checked.
This procedure is performed as follows:
- As with normal bleeding of brakes, with the engine not running, press the gas pedal several times;
- After 5 or 6 presses, keep the pedal in the down position, resting it on the floor, and start the engine;
- After starting, the pedal itself will move forward a little.
There is also a high probability of damage to the diaphragm, on which a hole is formed over time. You can purchase the diaphragm with a repair kit, the cost of which is no more than 500 rubles.
Replacement
To replace an element, you need to understand the main issue - how to remove the vacuum booster from a VAZ 2110. Directly replacing the old element with a new one will not be difficult, just like the reassembly process.
Therefore, we will tell you about the main thing - dismantling the amplifier. Let's start with the fact that the procedure is not complicated, but it requires accuracy and sequence of steps. If you follow the recommendations, the work will take little time and will not take much effort.
- Disconnect the block with wires, which includes brake fluid level sensors in its design.
- Hold the booster check valve with one hand and carefully disconnect the hose with the other. It is advisable to disconnect the hose with a strong hand, since this will require a lot of force.
- Remove the two bolts connecting the booster and master cylinder.
- Carefully remove the cylinder from the amplifier.
- There is no point in disconnecting the brake lines.
- Give access to the dashboard, which will allow you to unscrew the nuts holding the brake pedal bracket. There should be 4 of them.
- It is recommended to dismantle the bracket and amplifier through the engine compartment, since there is enough free space for such manipulations.
- Remove the pin lock plate. To do this, pry the finger with a screwdriver and squeeze it out.
- Now you can easily disable the brake pedal and booster.
- To disconnect the amplifier and bracket, you will have to unscrew the two nuts on the mount.
- A new one is installed in place of the dismantled old vacuum amplifier, and the reassembly procedure is performed in strict sequence of the dismantling process.
Replacing the master cylinder
And now we proceed directly to replacing the main brake cylinder on a VAZ 2110.
Removing the cylinder
VAZ 2110 replacement of the main brake cylinder
- The first step is to disconnect the brake fluid level sensor from the expansion tank of the master cylinder.
- Next you need to unscrew the cap of the expansion tank.
- Using a syringe, pump out the brake fluid from the expansion tank.
- The next step is to disconnect the brake system pipe.
- Using a 10mm wrench, disconnect all 4 tubes in series, 2 on one side of the cylinder and 2 on the other.
- Now the tubes should be bent slightly so that they do not interfere when removing the master cylinder.
- To get to the bolts securing the master cylinder to the vacuum brake booster, you need to unscrew several screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
Partial removal of the engine compartment trim
- These screws hold the engine compartment trim in place. Bend back the upholstery and give yourself good access to the two nuts.
- Using a 17mm wrench, unscrew these two nuts.
- Then simply remove the master cylinder from its studs along with the reservoir.
- If you have to remove the brake reservoir in order to install it on a new one (if the reservoir on the new cylinder breaks), then you should simply pry it off with a screwdriver and remove it.
Attaching the expansion tank to the brake master cylinder
- If it is necessary to replace the tank, do so before starting installation.
- Installation of the brake master cylinder occurs in the reverse order.
- First, you should hit the pusher rod into the hole in the master cylinder.
- Then put it on two studs and tightly tighten the fastening nuts with a 17mm wrench.
- Connect all brake system pipes.
Advice! Do not tighten the pipes too tightly - they will still have to be released in order to bleed the main brake.
- Unscrew the reservoir cap and fill it with brake fluid.
- Reinstall the engine compartment trim and secure it with self-tapping screws.
And so, on the VAZ 2110 the main brake cylinder has been changed!
Master brake cylinder
Now let's talk about the master brake cylinder on a VAZ 2110 car. If you do not want to allow the brakes to fail while driving, they should be checked periodically, and if problems arise, take appropriate action immediately.
A common reason for replacing the master brake cylinder of a VAZ 2110 is precisely the fact that the brakes are lost.
Symptoms of a problem
Of course, brakes can completely lose their effectiveness for various reasons, but now we are talking specifically about the master cylinder. If the reason lies therein, then it can be determined by the following signs:
- The master cylinder shows signs of brake fluid leakage;
- The pedal has an idle motion, that is, when it is pressed, no force is created;
- The brake pedal simply won't press.
Replacement
The most difficult process is disassembly. Therefore, let's talk about it in more detail.
- Carefully disconnect the master cylinder from the pipeline.
- Disconnect the block, which is equipped with wiring, from the emergency brake fluid indicator. The connection to the “ten” is made by terminals.
- Cover the pipe and assembly openings with something to prevent brake fluid from leaking. It will pollute the interior space, which is undesirable.
- Now remove the cylinder along with the reservoir. To do this, simply unscrew the fastening nuts that connect the element to the vacuum booster.
- After removing the brake fluid level sensor, drain the brake fluid present from the cylinder and the cylinder itself.
- If there is no serious need, you should not remove the tank. But for complete assembly, the tank is removed and then installed in place in strict order.
- Before reassembly, each element is washed with purified brake fluid. A good alternative is isopropyl alcohol.
- Do not forget to dry the parts with a compressor and wipe with a clean, dry cloth.
- Carefully avoid contact of the main cylinder with fuel or kerosene.
- Pay special attention to the O-rings. If you wash them with special alcohol, do not keep the rings in this liquid for more than 20 seconds. After processing, immediately dry and wipe the seals.
- Treat the surface of the piston and mirror to remove all rust.
- When replacing the master cylinder, new O-rings must be installed, regardless of their current condition.
- Check the elasticity of the piston springs under load. Refer to the VAZ 2110 repair manual, which indicates the appropriate loads and forces for testing.
- When free, the length of the spring should be 59.8 millimeters. If the indicator deviates from the norm, be sure to replace the springs.
Leveling up
If you think that after replacing the brake master cylinder you can safely go out on the roads, then you are mistaken. In fact, a complete repair of brake cylinders on a VAZ 2110 includes bleeding.
The procedure is not complicated, but requires following the instructions:
- Find someone who will help you in this matter. One will be near the car, and the second will be directly in the cabin.
- Inflate the brake pedal by pressing it several times.
- The assistant presses the pedal, and meanwhile you slightly unscrew the fitting on one of the brake system pipes.
- This should release air, as well as a small amount of brake fluid. Don't be alarmed by leaks, this is completely normal.
- Retighten the fitting using the same wrench as when unscrewing - 10.
- Command your assistant to lower the part.
- The procedure is repeated until air bubbles begin to come out when unscrewing the fitting.
- Each of the four circuits is pumped using similar actions.
- First make sure that the brake fluid in the expansion tank is filled to the required level.
Actually, at this point the repair work related to the master brake cylinder can be considered complete. Experience in operating a car like the VAZ 2110 suggests that you should always store a container of brake fluid in the trunk. All sorts of situations happen on the road, and you need to be prepared for them.

Video instructions for replacing the rear wheel brake cylinder of a VAZ 2110 - 2112
Watch below for a visual tutorial from my channel:
Well, then we’ll look at a step-by-step photo report on performing this type of repair.
And only after that you can proceed further. This detail is clearly shown in the photo below:
It is attached to the inside of the casing. There, the first thing you need to do is unscrew the brake pipe:
And lift it upside down so that the liquid does not flow out. But it is best to also place a container so that nothing spills on the floor or ground.
And then unscrew the two bolts securing the cylinder itself.
And from the reverse side we take out the cylinder, since it is not attached to anything else.
The installation is carried out in the reverse order and after that it is worth bleeding the brake system, which will be discussed in a separate article. The price of this part ranges from 350 to 600 rubles, depending on the manufacturer.
Domestic VIS companies are inexpensive, just 350 rubles, but imported analogues are much more expensive. But you shouldn’t overpay double the price, since factory parts last quite well for many years.
Usually, when the rear brake cylinder fails on VAZ 2110 cars, you can observe a decrease in the level of brake fluid in the reservoir. This occurs due to a violation of the tightness of the piston and its rubber. To fix this problem, you need to replace the cylinder with a new one.
There is nothing complicated in this procedure, and to perform it you will need the following tools:
- Head 10 with ratchet and wrench
- A special wrench for unscrewing brake pipes (the so-called split wrench)
First you need to remove the brake drum and rear pads, since there is no other way to access the cylinder.
After this, from the reverse side we unscrew the tube that fits the cylinder using a split wrench:
To prevent brake fluid from leaking, you can plug the end of it temporarily. Then we take the head with a knob and unscrew the two fastening bolts, again from the back, as is more clearly demonstrated in the photo below:
After which you can safely remove the rear brake cylinder of the VAZ 2110 from the outside, since it is not attached to anything else. The price of a new part produced by VIS is about 300 rubles per piece. If you change in pairs, then naturally you will have to pay about 600 rubles. Installation is carried out in reverse order. If, after installing everything new, the braking efficiency has decreased, and when you press the brake pedal, it sinks more than necessary, it is necessary to pump the fluid through the system.
Causes of malfunction of the rear braking mechanism
The hydraulic drive consists of a vacuum booster and a dual-circuit pressure regulator for the rear brakes. The main elements of the brake mechanism for the rear wheel are:
- 4 – brake pad.
- 6 – brake cylinder.
- 5 – guide spring.
- 11 – rear brake shield.
How effectively the rear brake cylinder of the VAZ 2110 will work will depend on the safety of the vehicle on the roads. The article suggests how to replace a brake cylinder with your own hands. The brake mechanism, like any other, is subject to wear, which requires its replacement after a certain period of time. Trade organizations offer a large selection of brake cylinders. When purchasing it, you need to pay attention to the quality of the product and the presence of positive reviews from car owners. So that you don’t have to purchase a new cylinder after the first day of using the car. To check the condition of the rear brake cylinder on the VAZ 2110, you need to remove the drum. The presence of a faulty brake cylinder may be indicated by:
- The efficiency of the brakes deteriorated (see Repairing brakes at home), its pedal became much “softer”, and bleeding the entire brake system and checking the condition of the brake pads did not eliminate the problem.
- Brake fluid leaks from the brake cylinder, as indicated by traces of its leaks on the brake flap, position 11. In this case, the tightness of the system is broken, and its mechanisms will not ensure stopping the car. The wheel pistons will push the pads apart and the disc will stop spinning. The pedal will fail and if an emergency occurs, the car will not be stopped in time. After disassembling the unit and replacing the cuffs, the situation does not improve.
Troubleshooting possible replacement problems
There are relatively few difficulties when replacing brake pads. As a rule, they are associated with souring of bolts due to rust. The drum elements that are most susceptible to corrosion are the mounting pins. In case of possible difficulties, the drum is removed along with the rear wheel hub, and when unscrewing the studs, it is allowed to use a penetrating lubricant such as WD-40
However, when working with brake mechanisms, lubricants should be used extremely carefully, avoiding their contact with the working surface of the pads or disc (in the case of the front wheels). Otherwise, the efficiency of the brakes may be significantly reduced, up to severe slipping between the working surfaces of the pad and drum linings or disc
To summarize, we can note the ease of replacing brake pads on a VAZ-2110. The procedure does not require special skills or tools; it can be done in an ordinary garage without any particular difficulties. Knowing the order of operations when replacing allows you to complete this procedure quickly and efficiently.

Replacement of rear brake cylinders
The best rear brake cylinders on the VAZ 2110 can work for a long time. An example of a defective product would be a brake cylinder in which the pistons extend out of the cylinder only a few millimeters, which is not enough to move the brake pads apart. The quality of the brake fluid also plays a role in the service life of the brake cylinders. The instructions indicate that the rear brake cylinders are removed with the brake drum removed.
Advice: It is advisable that the replacement of the rear brake cylinders of the VAZ 2110 be carried out simultaneously on both brakes. Wear of one of the elements indicates that the second one will soon fail. And the price of the work will be reduced by disassembling the car once.
- The machine is installed on an inspection pit or a lift.
- The front wheels are fixed.
- The rear ones are removed.
- Using a rubber hammer, the brake disc is pulled out of its place.
- Carefully remove the end of the upper tension spring, position 7 in the first photo. Previously, it was connected to the brake pad.
- The handbrake handle is raised all the way. In this case, the brake pads move apart and are removed without much effort.
- The brake pipe is unscrewed from the cylinder.
- The rear brake cylinder is removed.
Repair
Replacing rear brake cylinders on a VAZ 2109
If the brake cylinder is leaking, it must be replaced. But you don’t always have to buy a new one to do this. You can simply repair the old one. To do this, you need to buy cuffs in advance. As a rule, they are sold together with a boot and a pump. To do this, you need:
- Raise the car using a jack.
Note: To prevent the car from rolling away, place bricks on both sides under the wheels.
- Remove the wheel, but before doing this it is advisable to unscrew all the nuts that hold it in place. The key for 19 will help with this.
Note: the removed wheel must be put in its place, but not vertically, but horizontally. To equalize the height of the wheel with the height of other wheels, you can place some objects. Now you can lower the car and put the jack aside.
- Then the disk is removed.
Replacing the rear brake cylinder of a VAZ 2109
Note: under no circumstances should you hit the edge directly with a hammer, as you may break off the shells. It is advisable to do this through some kind of attachment (this is a small object that is adjusted to the edge, and then hit with a hammer).
- Unscrew all the nuts that hold the drum. Afterwards you can easily remove it.
Note: The brake cylinder will now be accessible.
- Remove the brake cylinder.
- Before you start repairing it, you need to lubricate the cuffs and boot with brake fluid so that they become slippery.
Replacing rear brake cylinders on a VAZ 2109
- Replace old cuffs with new ones. Insert the boot into place.
Note: After this, tighten it using a pump that was created specifically for this (it is included in the kit).
- Return the cylinder to its place.
Note: You need to press it lightly. To make it easier to fall into place, it needs to be shaken a little.
- You can twist it. To do this, you need to use a key of 10.
Note: the disadvantage of the rear cylinder is that there is no way to screw it with a head, which would be much easier.
- After this, you need to take a flat-head screwdriver and place the cylinder straight.
- Then you need to start screwing on the brake pads.
Note: The ends of the shoes must connect to the holes in the cylinder.
- Screw the pads so that they are stationary. The pads must be connected using springs.
- Return the drum, disc and wheel itself to their place.
How to replace the main brake cylinder on a VAZ 2110 with your own hands
There always comes a time when some problems arise in the operation of a part. If the brakes fail during a trip, this means there is a danger for the driver and passengers. The brake wheel cylinder is a very important part of the entire brake system. It converts the pressure exerted by the fluid into a force that is exerted on the brake pads. Therefore, it is necessary to replace the master cylinder in time if irreparable problems arise with it.
When the driver brakes, he exerts an effect on the brake pedal, and in order for this effect to be realized, there is a part - a rod that acts on the piston of the main cylinder. It affects the brake fluid, which then affects the cylinders. During this process, special pistons press the brake pads against the discs (sometimes drums). The differences arise from different types of braking systems.
Below are instructions for replacing the master cylinder. She will help you make quality repairs with your own hands:
- reasons why the brakes failed;
- the ability to repair the brake master cylinder;
- tools necessary for work;
- replacing the main cylinder;
- its final removal;
- cylinder installation;
- improvement of the main brake cylinder.
Reasons why the brakes might fail
Any problems during the braking process reduce its effectiveness, which can lead to dire consequences for everyone - the driver, passengers, and other road users.
Very often, problems arise simply because the driver uses low-quality brake fluid. If your car suddenly loses brakes, this may be due to several reasons, the main thing is not to blame the master cylinder for all the problems.
Below are the reasons why the brakes on a car fail:
- One of the main causes is usually a leaking slave cylinder. Gradually, slowly or quickly, all the contained liquid flows out of it.
- You should also check the level of brake fluid in the reservoir and the condition of the main brake.
- If traces of smudges are noticeable on the main brake, then this is the reason.
- Another possible cause of brake failure could be that the brake line is torn. For example, rubber brake hoses could fray, partially rot in some places, or get punctures.
- The working cylinders may have jammed;
If it is nevertheless noticed that the main brake cylinder is not working:
- it will show where traces of brake fluid leaks appeared;
- it will be impossible to press the brake pedal;
- on the contrary, the brake pedal can move on its own without the driver making any effort to do so.
Master brake cylinder with reservoir: 1 — master cylinder body;
2 low pressure o-ring; 3 — drive piston of the “left front-right rear brake” circuit; 4 - spacer ring; 5 - high pressure sealing ring; 6 — pressure spring of the sealing ring; 7 — spring plate; 8 — piston return spring; 9 — washer; 10 — locking screw; 11 — drive piston of the “right front-left rear brake” circuit; 12 — connecting sleeve; 13 - tank; 14 - emergency brake fluid level sensor; A - gap.
Therefore, it is possible to repair the VAZ 2110 brake cylinder, but not always. Most often, if it leaks, a repair kit will help fix the problem and restore the cylinder’s functionality. If the internal mirror in the cylinder is damaged, then, unfortunately, nothing can be corrected, since grinding is prohibited. If everything is not so scary and repairs are possible, you can do it yourself, because the price of the repair kit is quite reasonable, and almost every motorist can afford it.
What tools are required to replace a brake master cylinder?
- key to 17;
- key to 10;
- half-liter bottle of brake fluid;
- syringe;
- brake fluid.
Some tips
- If you start having problems with the brakes, first of all you need to carry out an external inspection of the vehicle: check the fluid level in the reservoir, make sure that the front/rear cylinders are not leaking. There should not even be stains of brake fluid in the brake hydraulics.
- “Brake fluid” must be filled with the same brand; it is recommended to completely replace the brake fluid at least once every two years.
- If faults are identified in the gas turbine engine, and it has already served for at least a year, it is more advisable to replace it completely than to repair it. The same can be said about the rear working cylinders.
- Before changing the turbocharger, the brake fluid should be removed from it; this operation is usually done using a syringe.
- Usually a leak in the master cylinder is not visible, but if there is any suspicion that this part is faulty, you should remove the main cylinder - there will be traces of leaks at the rear, and this indicates its faulty condition.
- If, during an external inspection, cracks were found on the brake hoses, it is better not to take risks and immediately replace the defective parts.

Brake master cylinder replacement process
- First you need to disconnect the brake fluid level sensor from the main brake cylinder.
- Unscrew the cap on the expansion tank.
- Using a syringe, pump out the liquid contained in the expansion tank.
- Disconnect the pipe from the brake system.
- Using a 10mm wrench, disconnect 4 tubes in series: 2 on each side.
- Bend these tubes so that when removing the brake cylinder they do not interfere with the process.
- Now you need to unscrew several screws with a Phillips screwdriver in order to get to the bolts securing the main cylinder and the brake booster (vacuum).
- Then you need to bend the upholstery so that 2 nuts are visible.
- Using a 17mm wrench, you need to unscrew these nuts and remove the main cylinder (remove directly with the tank);
- Remove the brake reservoir and install a new one in its place.
How to install the cylinder correctly:
- Before installation, the tank should be replaced;
- install the main cylinder in the reverse order described above;
- Take the pusher rod and place it exactly into the hole located in the main cylinder;
- Place the pusher rod on the 2 studs and tighten the fastening nuts tightly using a 17mm wrench;
- connect all pipes of the brake system pipeline;
Important! Don't tighten the pipes too much, as they will have to be loosened anyway to bleed the main brake, so it's best not to do extra work.
- after connecting all the pipes, you need to unscrew the cap from the reservoir and fill it with brake fluid;
- After that, install the trim back into the engine compartment, securing it with self-tapping screws. This completes the installation.
How to remove an old VAZ-2110 cylinder
Replacing the master brake cylinder of a VAZ-2110 involves first removing the old model. The subsequent installation of the new model depends on how well this process goes. To avoid mistakes and miscalculations, follow these instructions:
- Disconnect the brake fluid indicator related to the GTZ from the expansion tank located in the VAZ-2110.
- Unscrew the closing valve of the expansion tank.
- Using a syringe, pump out the liquid, and then unscrew the pipeline from the general brake system.
- If you have a 10 key, disconnect 4 tubes, 2 on each side.
- Gently push the tubes to the side so that they do not interfere with the removal of the cylinder.
- Next, your task is to get to the bolts that secure the part to the vacuum brake booster. To do this, unscrew the screws using a Phillips head screwdriver. These screws are responsible for holding and securing the engine compartment upholstery.
- Bend the upholstery material and 2 nuts will become available to you.
- Remove the GTZ by removing it from the studs directly with the tank.
- If the tank also needs to be replaced, then the old sample is slightly pryed with a screwdriver and removed, and a new one is put in its place.
Which master brake cylinder is better for the VAZ-2110
The main brake cylinder of the VAZ-2110 can be repaired, but not always.
Currently, many companies produce analogues of the VAZ-2110 GTZ. Most of them are a higher quality product than recommended by the manufacturer.
Products from Fenox or Kraft are in great demand.
For aesthetes, we can recommend a product from Bosch, which costs three times more. In addition, many manufacturers produce parts with or without a tank.
Fenox
Brake cylinder FENOX T2043C3
For example, the company Fenox GTZ has the following article numbers:
- FENOX T2043C3 – this part is without a tank;
- FENOX T2043.5C3 – with tank.
Since the difference between these modifications is small, it is better to purchase a GTZ with a tank, especially if the old one contains dirt that is very difficult to remove.

You can determine the faulty part yourself; to do this, you just need to know what to look for:
- Leaks in the brake fluid on the vacuum booster at the junction with the main brake cylinder indicate that the cuff in the cylinder is worn out.
In any case, you need to determine for yourself whether it’s worth bothering with disassembling the GTZ and repairing it or immediately installing a new part.
Is it worth buying a repair kit and is it profitable?
Buying a repair kit can save the money spent several times, but it will increase the time costs.
Based on the cost of the GTZ at 1,000 rubles, you need to think carefully about whether it is worth disassembling the brake cylinder for such a sum. Repair kits can be incomplete or complete . In any case, you need to purchase a complete one, since no one will measure the forces on the return springs.
You can also repair the brake master cylinder yourself.
An attempt to save money will result in a long procedure of disassembling, washing and drying all parts. When washing, you need to make sure that no gasoline or oil gets on the rubber parts, as this can damage them.
Therefore, the use of a repair kit can only be justified in the following cases:
- The assembled part is not available for sale.
- Inability to allocate 1,000 rubles for a purchase.
- The desire to understand the brake system with your own hands from beginning to end.
In other cases, it is better to immediately install the assembled part.
Tools that will be needed during the replacement process
To replace the brake cylinder you will need a tool.
Before starting any repair work, you should prepare thoroughly. Replacing the brake master cylinder is no exception. To replace this part you will need:
- Set of keys. Having a variety of sockets and socket wrenches will be a huge advantage.
- Screwdriver Set.
- Round nose pliers will help when changing cuffs.
- Special “brake” wrench for 10.
In addition, during the replacement process, brake fluid will spill out, which is generally advisable to replace with new one. DOT-4 brake fluid is suitable for the VAZ-2110.
The process of removing the old part
In order to remove the brake master cylinder, you need to open the hood and do the following:
- To get to the part, you will first have to remove the sound insulation. You should not try to tear it off, as it is secured with bolts. Therefore, you should arm yourself with a screwdriver and unscrew all the fasteners. If the sound insulation is not removed after this, it means that not all fasteners have been unscrewed. If you pull the element, it can be damaged. After this, you can start replacing.
We unscrew several screws using a Phillips screwdriver to remove the sound insulation.
Disconnect the terminal with wires.
We disconnect the tubes and put rubber caps on them.
Unscrew the fastening bolts.
Remove the brake cylinder.
At this point, the dismantling process can be considered complete.
Installing a new part
Getting started with installation depends on what part you purchased. If it was assembled with the tank, then this will save the car owner from unnecessary work.
If the new gas turbine engine does not have a tank, you need to install the old tank. Before installation, it must be carefully inspected for cracks, chips and damage. If the tank is in poor condition, you will have to buy a new one. It is for this reason that it is recommended to immediately buy and assemble it.
Further work should proceed according to this algorithm:
- The new part is installed in its place under the hood of the car.
We install the new brake cylinder in its original place.
After all the air has come out, clamp the pipes.
Next you need to carefully tighten the fasteners . At this point, the procedure for replacing the GTZ can be considered complete. You will need to add brake fluid to the reservoir, connect the sensor in the plug and install the sound insulation in the old place.

Required Tools
If you plan to do the repair yourself, then you need to check the availability of the following tools and materials:
- Screwdriver Set.
- Brake fluid.
- Special wrench for disassembling brakes “10”.
- Socket wrench “17”.
- Plug fittings.
- Pliers.
- Rubber caps.
- A set of keys.
- Socket wrench "13".
Advice! If in the VAZ 2110 mechanism, in addition to the sealing rings, other parts are damaged, then only replacing the GTZ will help. If the remaining elements are fully operational, you need to buy new rings and install them in place of the damaged parts.
Bleeding the brakes after replacement, should I do it or not?
After the procedure for replacing the brake master cylinder, some inexperienced car owners do not consider it necessary to pump the brakes. If you neglect this procedure, the brakes may fail at the most crucial moment.
It is necessary to bleed the brake system . This procedure is simple, although two people must be involved. The pumping procedure is as follows:
- We need to pump up the brakes. To do this, the pedal is pressed several times, after which it is held down.
- At this time, you need to partially unscrew the brake pipe fitting on one wheel.
- This should remove air from the system. Periodically, an assistant should pump the brakes by pressing the pedal. This procedure must be repeated until fluid sprays out of the tube when you press the brake pedal.
We pump the brakes on each wheel one by one.
This procedure is repeated on each of the four wheels of the car . Before bleeding the brakes on each wheel, you need to add brake fluid to the reservoir. Only after bleeding the brakes can you go out on the road without fear that the brakes will fail at the most inopportune moment.
