What types of luggage structures are there?

The Lada Granta roof rack comes in two types. In one case, you can use a simple design, which is presented in the form of two roof rails that are fixed on both sides of the car roof. The slats can be installed along the body or across it.

The open design is suitable for close transport.

The second type is a covered stylized box. In addition to its practical purpose, it also has a decorative effect, improving the appearance of the car. But such a trunk is more difficult to install and has a higher cost. To install it, you will also need to purchase roof rails.

Sound insulation work in the luggage compartment

If you improve the noise insulation of the trunk yourself, you will need to complete 3 main steps.

Installation of soundproofing material between the stiffeners. In this case, thin STP is best.
Installation of the base for a neat fit of the decorative material. You can use splen, having previously drilled holes for the pistons.
Installation of decorative cladding. The sheathing material can be carpet, which is carefully cut with a margin under the bend. And for reliability, the trunk lid trim is additionally attached around the perimeter.

When performing such work, it will not be superfluous to install any type of handle or belt so that you can close the trunk lid of the Lada Grant from the passenger compartment.

Installing the trunk lid trim is a little easier using ready-made kits. Among those offered on the market you can find both a regular plastic decorative panel and an option with a rubber seal, an additional niche for a warning triangle and a recessed handle for closing the luggage compartment lid. As a rule, the kit includes fasteners and the necessary tools.

It should be noted that additional noise protection should be carried out separately.

Characteristic

The trunk on the Grant is represented by roof rails, which have the form of two longitudinal arches, and transverse crossbars. These structures are not included in any package, but AvtoVAZ has provided holes for them in the roof of the car. Railings differ according to the type of location:

horizontal products;
vertical options.

Vertical structures are presented in several modifications. They can be two-, three- and four-post.

Externally, the roof rack on the Grant sedan looks decent. There are many products in stores, which allows you to choose a design to suit the characteristics of the car.

Trunk installation

The open trunk is secured without much difficulty. Installing the roof rails will not take much time; any driver can do it. The kit includes:

right and left roof rails;
gaskets – 6 pieces;
protectors to protect the coating;
edging;
screws for brackets – 6 pieces (M6 x 12).

To attach the roof rack to the Lada Granta liftback, you will need a hex wrench, which is included in the kit, but for reliability it is better to stock up on your own tool. Before starting work, the machine is placed on a level surface. All doors must be opened. How to install a trunk on a Grant:

Work starts from the back door. There is a rubber seal between the roof and the edge of the doors. It is eliminated on both sides.
There is no need to make holes for attaching the rails: they are already there, but are hidden by insulating material, which is pierced in the right place, attaching the rail to the roof.
Before proceeding with installation, carefully wipe the mounting points with a dry cloth.
Then the railing is applied and secured with the screws included in the kit.
The rubber seal is returned to its place.

The installed roof rails are not yet a full-fledged trunk; transverse aluminum strips will need to be attached and bolted to them. There are different models of slats: there are universal options, and they also sell special slats for Grants. Installing the roof rack on the Grant will take no more than half an hour.

What kind of cargo can be transported?

The luggage structure will allow you to transport more things, but not more than 50 kilograms. Suitable for transportation:

some types of building materials: pipes, boards, linoleum, etc.; things;
packaged foods, bagged vegetables;
bicycles, tents, other sports equipment;
fishing equipment.

With the help of simple devices, you can increase the usable area of the car and transport cargo that does not fit in a regular trunk.

Owner Tips

No one will tell the “grant driver” that he has a typical summer resident’s car. Going on a picnic, fishing, or hunting in such a car is also an easy task, because the dimensions allow you to take everything you need into nature. In general, car owners have a positive impression of the liftback.

And regarding the luggage compartment - do not forget to switch to low beam in the dark, do not put the things you need in the spare wheel tray, buy a different rubber mat, change the location of the tools, do not install a subwoofer and learn how to open and close the lid, and the trunk will be excellent .

You can separately purchase a trim for the trunk along with a set of tools and a seal. It is installed using the included screws.

The installation can be done alone, but, according to the advice of experienced car enthusiasts, it is better to do it together. Perhaps additional noise insulation would not hurt, since it remained the weak link: impacts of stones and oncoming air flows are very clearly felt by ear when driving.

The Lada Granta Liftback is built on the platform from the Granta Sedan, which means that the body dimensions are as close as possible to those of the sedan.

The width and height are the same: 1700 x 1500 mm, but the length is shorter by as much as 150 mm, and is 4246 mm. Inside the cabin, the proportions are maintained, with the exception of the free space above the heads of passengers in the rear row of seats. It was reduced by 8.0 cm. In general, no discomfort was felt. The main advantage of the Liftback model is the increased space in the luggage compartment, despite the overall reduction in body length. With the seats folded, the volume is 440 liters, when unfolded - 760 liters.

Closed boxes

You can install closed boxes on Granta. They are fixed on the rails. Automotive stores offer options of different designs and volumes. Indoor box characteristics:

the box is made of metal or plastic, inside it they place things that they want to keep from dust and dirt;
the box has a streamlined shape so as not to disturb the aerodynamics of the car;
The design is equipped with a lock that prevents the lid from opening during travel and also protects against theft.

Self-installation

Having purchased a set of roof rails, you can entrust their installation to specialists by visiting the nearest service station. There, for 15 minutes of work they will charge you from 150 to 250 rubles.

However, you can save on this by installing the trunk yourself. Moreover, everything you need is included in the kit, including installation instructions. An approximate algorithm for installing roof rails is as follows:

We install the machine on a level area.
Open the rear and front doors on the right or left side of the car.
Remove the rubber seal between the roof and the upper edge of the doors. We start with the back door.
There is no need to make holes for attaching the roof rails. They are provided by the factory and hidden under electrical tape. There is also no need to remove it. It is enough to simply pierce the electrical tape in the right place, after first attaching (trying on) the railing.
We wipe the areas under the roof rails with a clean rag, getting rid of possible dirt and dust.
We place the gaskets from the kit in the seats, aligning them with the mounting holes.
We attach the right rail, placing its brackets on the spacers so that they are between the bracket and the body.
We secure the roof rail using the screws included in the kit, 3 on each side of the car, without clamping them completely.
Pressing the roof rail tightly against the roof, we completely tighten the middle screw, and then the other two, but do not screw it tightly.
Along the perimeter of the front and rear railing brackets we glue the protector edgings so that the brackets are inside them.
We dismantle the railing.
In the resulting “windows”, limited by edgings, we install protectors by gluing them to the roof surface. The arrows on the treads should point forward.
We remove the edgings and smooth the protectors.
We install the railing according to the algorithm described above. We tighten the bolts all the way.
We install the railing on the other side in the same way.

Rules for transporting goods

When installing a luggage structure, do not forget about safety. You need to know some rules to transport luggage in cars:

the load, in particular boards, should not block the driver’s path;
When transporting pipes, safety precautions must be taken to prevent them from being stumbled upon.
other drivers. You can install a screen or tie a red rag on the edges;
the load must be securely secured so that it does not cause an accident;
the weight of the load on the Grant should not exceed 50 kilograms.

A roof rack is the most inexpensive way to expand the useful volume of transported cargo on a Lada Granta. If we talk about the towbar and rear trailer, these are amounts of a completely different level, and driving a car with a load on a trailer is not so convenient. So roof rails can be considered the most popular and optimal solution.

Of course, we should not forget about technical limitations. The load installed on the roof rails of the Lada Granta, according to AvtoVAZ technical regulations, should not exceed a weight of 50 kg, if we do not want to irreversibly deform the roof of our car. You should also not forget that the car as a whole has a limit on the weight of the luggage carried - the total overload over the curb weight should not exceed 400 kg.
