During the reign of Bo Andersson, the VAZ team quickly prepared three new products. Kalina Cross, Largus Cross and Lada 4x4 Urban were a response to the increased interest in purely urban crossovers and SUVs. All the cars turned out to be successful, but in the five years since their introduction, only the first one has been updated. After restyling, like the rest of the Kalinas, the raised station wagon tried on the “face” from Vesta and a nameplate with Grant’s inscription.
Visibility
In fact, a large glass area has long gone out of fashion. Therefore, Granta and Logan look outdated, but from the inside they create the effect of being in an aquarium. Well, let it be, but it provides excellent visibility, which modern models cannot boast of. And visibility is the key to safety.
Narrow body pillars, a large rear window, good-sized “mugs” of the side mirrors: the Granta Cross driver sees everything around with his own eyes, and not with the help of electronic assistants. Although, of course, the luxury package includes rear parking sensors. The high seating position also makes its contribution. In the raised version, the driver sits almost two centimeters higher than in the regular version: the Granta’s ground clearance is 180 mm, the Granta Cross’s is 198 mm.

Technical characteristics of Lada Granta Cross 2019-2020
Buyers will be able to choose one of two powertrain options for the Granta Cross model:
- Engine 1.6 liter 87 hp and 140 Nm (works in tandem with a 5-speed manual transmission);
- Engine 1.6 liter 106 hp and 148 Nm (combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT robot).
The ground clearance of the cross-version of Grant’s “barn,” as already noted, reaches 198 mm, which is 18 mm higher than the ground clearance of a standard station wagon. Such a reserve under the bottom will allow the car to move more confidently on dirt roads and park at high curbs without fear.

The most affordable on the market
Lada Granta was and remains the cheapest new car on the Russian market. And in any version. So the Cross version, of all the fashionable pseudo-SUVs, is closest to the buyer. At the same time, in terms of practicality, with its ground clearance and impenetrable suspension, the Lada is ready to give a head start to any of its rivals.

Model design and equipment
The body of the new Grant Cross station wagon is designed in the same style as all the latest Lada models. However, original attributes are added to the signature X-shaped expression of the “face” - plastic linings “all around” and on the doors, as well as exclusive 15-inch wheels sporting a special two-tone color (a combination of gray and silver shades) and polished areas. These wheels are fitted with 195/55 R15 tires, while the base station wagon gets 185/55 R15 tires. The color “Aurum” will be included in the palette of body enamels of the new model, which should give the car additional energy (the car in this color is shown in the photo).
In the interior of the new representative of the Granta line, the dominant black shade is diluted with orange and gray inserts. Already in the initial configuration, the Lada Granta Cross will be able to boast climate control and roof rails, but in more expensive versions the car will be equipped with heated front seats and windshield, cruise control, rear parking sensors, and multimedia with a color screen.

Russian specifications and prices for the Lada Granta Cross 2019 have been announced, sales of which will start on June 12. The station wagon is offered to be purchased in three versions (Classic, Comfort and Luxe), paying from 554,900 to 643,900 rubles. The “Classic” version includes powered and heated mirrors, climate control and audio preparation. The Comfort package includes heated front seats and a 4-speaker audio system. The Luxury version includes a heated windshield, rear parking sensors and cruise control. The full price list with all modifications and prices is given below.

But the classic 4-speed Jatco automatic transmission, like all other Grants, is not and will not be available on the Cross. The main reason is that this box reduces the ground clearance by 15 mm, which goes against the crossover concept and excellent suitability for off-pavement travel. Although, I think, 183 mm under the bottom would be enough for most clients.

The issue of price should not be discounted either. The Japanese box is an addition of 55 thousand to the price of Grants with mechanics. That is, with it, the luxury Cross would come close to the milestone of 700 thousand rubles. Apparently, marketers considered this amount excessive for a budget model, although Ladas now cost over a million (remember Vesta Sport).

The main feature is the ground clearance - it is 182 mm, which is 22 mm more than the standard model.
The engine range will not present any surprises: these are two 1.6 liter power units with 87 and 106 hp.

With such an engine, the car is offered only in the entry-level Classic configuration at a price of 520-540 thousand rubles. 87 horsepower engine with eight valves. The model's equipment includes a driver's airbag, ABS, air conditioning, electric mirrors and front power windows, an audio system, and light alloy wheels.
This engine is paired with only a manual transmission.

With a more powerful engine with 16 valves and 106 hp. The model is offered in two equipment options. The Comfort package will cost 545-565 thousand rubles and differs from the Classic version only by the addition of another airbag.
The top-end Luxe configuration includes a full set of electric windows, fog lights, automatic wipers and headlights, as well as parking sensors. The price of the new Lada Granta Cross station wagon will be no more than 600 thousand rubles.
As an additional option for the car, it is possible to replace the “mechanics” with a robotic transmission. Depending on the configuration, the amount of the surcharge will vary between 25-28 thousand rubles.

Let's sum it up
It is worth considering that cars from a Russian manufacturer still remain a rather dubious choice in terms of price-quality ratio. Our plant has raised the cost of its equipment, but does not have time to modify its production assets. This leads to the fact that many cars simply cannot be assembled with sufficient quality on existing overloaded conveyors. For now, for Granta Cross, the issue of price and quality remains the most pressing. If, based on these two parameters, the car can offer something interesting to the buyer, the car will definitely be sold.
But we must not forget that the state offers many fun programs for loans, trade-ins and simply discounts for young married couples on domestic cars. So it is quite possible that the real price for money or on credit for the new Granta Cross will start somewhere around 520,000 rubles, and this is a completely different conversation. We need to wait for the premiere in showrooms with official price tags and talk about how they meet expectations and competition. At the end of August, at the Moscow Motor Show, AvtoVAZ presented a cross-version of the Lada Granta station wagon. Sales of the new product will begin at the beginning of 2021. Off-road modifications in other bodies are not expected, but the Kolesa.ru portal presented what the Lada Granta Cross liftback could be like.
